چکیده
Territoriality, spatial exploration and social hierarchy are strictly related behaviors in gregarious fishes, often under-appreciated farms where the individuals confined within crowded spaces. In this study, we investigated role of exploration, elucidating importance time upon forming organization, territoriality gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata), using two experimental approaches. first approach, three fish were placed sequentially aquarium with an interval days (sequential model), while second (simultaneous simultaneously divided by a barrier which was removed after certain period time. To study effect stress perception models, monitored behavior (aggressive acts feeding priority), integrated evaluation physiological cellular parameters, such as phagocytosis, cortisol, glucose, blood osmolarity levels. After establishment “sequential model”, observed that levels cortisol immunological cell-mediated marker higher subordinate than dominant ones. We different modulation phagocytic activity peritoneal cavity cells between subordinates, demonstrating immune response. Differently from model, no behavioral, physiological, or differences found involved simultaneous both acted co-dominants, defending their territory. The achieved deeper understanding territorial dominance intraspecific interaction seabream, elucidated link them indicators. results highlight aspects interest to aquaculture industry, showing greater focus on rearing conditions, finding solutions mitigate crowding effects promoting quality aquacultural products.

Distribution and capture Th e gilthead seabream, Sparus aurata, is a subtropical Sparidae distributed from 62°N 15°N, 17°W 43°E. It occurs naturally in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea (rare), and in the Eastern Atlantic, from the British Isles, Strait of Gibraltar to Cape Verde and around the Canary Islands (1). Gilthead sea bream are captured with traditional and sporting equipment, and so...
متن کاملFeeding time synchronises daily rhythms of behaviour and digestive physiology in Gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata)
Feeding cycles entrain biological rhythms, which enabling animals to anticipate feeding times and so maximize food utilization. In this article the effect of mealtime on locomotor activity, blood glucose, gastric pH and digestive enzymes was studied in two groups of seabream (Sparus aurata): one group received a single daily meal at random times either during the light and the dark period (rand...
متن کاملA role for acidophilic granulocytes in the testis of the gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata L., Teleostei).
In mammals, a complex interaction between the immune and the reproductive systems has been described, in which testicular immune cells produce cytokines and growth factors which modulate gonad functions, while specific gonad cells influence the immune response in this organ. In this study we describe the presence of acidophilic granulocytes in the testis of the hermaphrodite teleost fish gilthe...
متن کاملArachidonic acid reduces the stress response of gilthead seabream Sparus aurata L.
In this study the influence of the dietary level of the fatty acid arachidonic acid (ArA, 20:4n-6) was determined on the acute stress response and osmoregulation of adult gilthead seabream Sparus aurata L. Seabream were fed a diet containing either 0.9% or 2.4% of total fatty acids as ArA for 18 days before being subjected to a 5 min period of net confinement. Prior to this stressor, a subgroup...
متن کاملFeeding, physiology and growth responses in first-feeding gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata L.) larvae in relation to prey density
21 The effects of prey density (0.1, 1 and 10 rotifer ml ) on feeding, oxygen uptake, growth, survival and energetic efficiencies in Sparus aurata larvae were investigated. Dry weights and 21 total lengths at day 15 after hatching were similar in larvae fed with 10 and 1 rotifer ml but 21 were significantly higher than in larvae fed with 0.1 rotifer ml . These differences were a consequence of ...
